Battling the Spotted Lanternfly: Reporting and Treatment Services
The Spotted Lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) is an invasive insect native to Asia that has rapidly spread across the United States, primarily affecting the Northeastern states. Recognizable by its striking appearance – featuring vivid red wings with black spots and a distinctive white underside. The Spotted Lanternfly may seem visually captivating, but it has a destructive nature and could become a significant threat to agriculture, forestry, and the environment.
The Pennsylvania Agricultural Ombudsman Program is in place to support agriculture, local government, and communities; however, we are not the contact for reporting Spotted Lanternfly sightings. The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and Penn State University and Penn State Extension have mobilized to address this issue. They provide many resources to monitor and help control this insect.
